Physiotherapist Faversham

A physiotherapist is a registered health care professional. Physiotherapy is the diagnosis and treatment of all musculoskeletal problems including chronic conditions, acute injuries, sports injuries  and post-operative rehabilitation. I specialise in maintaining and improving movement and mobility.  I use ‘hands-on’ techniques to relieve symptoms and also give advice and prescribe exercise to support recovery.  I use a variety of techniques to reduce pain and speed up the healing process.  Acute injuries are assessed and treated to settle immediate symptoms and an individually tailored rehabilitation program is then formulated.
Wilson Smith Physiotherapy is a small private physio clinic based near Faversham. I treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, that means any aches and pains that are related to bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments. Many of the patients I treat have had a recent onset of neck or back pain which have been caused by a variety of different reasons. I also treat acute injuries including sprained ankles, twisted knees and muscle tears to chronic pain and people who have lived with pain for many years. I can also help reduce the symptoms associated with arthritic conditions, using manual techniques, massage and acupuncture to help increase range of motion and decrease pain.

As you can imagine with such a variety of conditions from Sciatic to twisted ankles there are vast and varied treatment options. The main option is Manual Treatments, which consists of hands on manipulation and mobilization, soft tissue massage and stretches. Any manual treatment is always done in combination with advice and home exercises, so you can maintain improvements gained in each session. Acupuncture is also done in combination with Manual Treatment or as a standalone treatment. Acupuncture is used regularly for arthritic conditions for pain relief, which is in line with government guidelines.

Other treatment options include Electrotherapy which is still used for Acute injuries like ligamentous or muscular sprains and tears to help speed up the body’s natural healing process. I am also qualified in Hydrotherapy which uses water to help improve mobility and strength. Hydrotherapy is very useful post total knee or hip replacements or for chronic back pain.

I can also advise if an onward referral to a consultant is required or imagining such as x-ray or MRI Scan. Imagining can often be avoided, as is generally only required if surgery is an option, such as total knee/hip replacements or ACL repairs.

I can treat people with health insurance from many of the big healthcare companies, such as BUPA, Simply Health, AXA PPP and Aviva. Please ring to discuss if you have other insurance and want to check if you are covered.

The Clinic is based from an extension from my family home. There is side access to the treatment room, which is a private room with separate wash facilities for patients if they require. The clinic room has plenty of space for thorough assessments including gait analysis, exercise rehab and 1:1 Pilates. There is plenty of parking on the drive.
