TREATMENTS

Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy involves the use of gentle mobilising techniques aimed at restoring normal, natural function.  Mobilisation can be directed at joints and soft tissue, which, combined with exercise therapy and stretching, is effective for all musculo-skeletal conditions.  Manipulation and massage is also included under the title of manual therapy.

Back pain, sciatica, cervical spondylosis and headaches all respond well to these gentle mobilising techniques.

Graded exercise is always an important part of rehabilitation whether returning to sport or post operative management and will be introduced into your treatment plan as is necessary.

Acupuncture

I am qualified to practice acupuncture for pain relief to complement my manual therapy skills. Acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce natural pain relieving chemicals which assist in the healing processes needed to restore normal function to an injured area.

Acupuncture can be very effective for arthritic conditions as well as Chronic Pain.

Clinical Pilates

Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on balance, posture, strength and flexibility. It's suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.  Pilates aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and wellbeing.  There is some research that shows that Pilates can help reduce pain with people with non specific lower back pain.

I was trained under the Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute and have been teaching individual and group Pilates for many years.  If you are interested please contact me for availability and location of classes as these vary.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is the use of water in the treatment of different conditions, including arthritis and related rheumatic complaints. Hydrotherapy differs from swimming because it involves special exercises that you do in a warm-water pool. The water temperature is usually 33–36ºC, which is warmer than a typical swimming pool.

I trained as a Hydrotherapy Instructor under the Aquatic Therapy Association of Chartered Physiotherapists and have done a combination of NHS and private Hydrotherapy.  If you are interested in Hydrotherapy please contact me and I will be happy to discuss venues and prices.

Sheldon Spa in Sheldwich has regular availability for Hydrotherapy and is the perfect temperature.
